Alicia Silverstone is popularly known as the Clueless actress, who became a vegan in 1999. She has long advocated for animal welfare. The actress appeared to be in the desert for the advertisement wearing nothing but a pair of cowboy boots. The PETA ad says, "Wear Vegan. Buy cactus, mushroom or apple leather instead!” It must be noted that Silverstone's attitude conveys how serious she is despite the humour in the advertisement's phrase choice, as she looks directly into the camera while concealing her privates. Read on to know more about the campaign against use of leather.

Silverstone recalls her motives for going vegan

Silverstone acknowledged that she hasn't always had such good health. "I wasn't always a vegetarian, but I've always loved animals," she said in a statement at the time. Ever since she was 21 years old, Alicia Silverstone has been a vegan. Becoming vegan turned the actress into a "health nut because you feel so good, you feel so different," she explained to Self magazine in 2017. "Physically, the effect has been amazing. Being able to do something that is good for the Earth, good for the animals, and good for you all at the same time seems like such a no-brainer," she continued. "It’s like the biggest ‘Duh!'"

The outspoken animal advocate and her son, Bear Blu, 11, were both featured in PETA's "Good as Hell" campaign earlier this year. In July, PETA exclusively shared the promotional video with PEOPLE, which was paired to the 2016 smash song by Grammy-winner Lizzo. The film exhorts viewers to adopt a vegan diet in place of continuing to consume animal products. Bear was also raised by Silverstone as a vegan.

Alicia shares her take on PETA’s latest campaign

Silverstone has already stripped off for PETA. The "Senior Year" actor stripped off for a 2020 anti-meat campaign photo. But now, the 46 year-old actress, gave an explanation of her decision to get naked for the camera. "I never, ever, get naked in TV, in film, nothin', never, nope – but I've done it for PETA because that's how much it matters to me," the actress said in a press release obtained by Fox News Digital. "The amount of resources, water, food, oil for transport, the amount of energy that goes into making leather is extraordinary. It's just not sustainable. The Earth can't handle it. If it takes me getting naked for you to care about animals
then that is what I'm after," the actress said at the beginning of the video. After explaining how leather affects the planet, she added, "My dream is to get these vegan, earth-friendly materials into the hands of famous designers. I'd rather go naked than wear animals." The resident of San Francisco reiterates her passion for veganism while standing outside before the shoot while donning a gorgeous blush-colored robe.

The advertisement will be displayed on a billboard in Times Square, New York City. A behind-the-scenes movie by PETA featuring an interview with Silverstone was also made available.
