Air India’s new menu on international flights from India offers vegan options!

For passengers travelling on Air India’s international flights from India henceforth, here’s some fantastic news! The airline has just introduced a new in-flight menu, which offers several vegan options for its first class and business class travellers. 

The vegan menu includes Masala Uttapam, Thai Red Curry with Tofu and Vegetables, Subz Seekh Kebab, Medu Wada, Lemon Sevaiya Upma, and Broccoli and Millet Steak. 

We contacted Air India to understand the reason behind this move. They shared, “We introduced vegan meals as we wanted to have an inclusive approach towards people’s sensitivities.”

On the new refreshed menus, Sandeep Verma, Head of Inflight Services, Air India, said, “As part of our ongoing effort of transforming the Air India experience for guests, we have brought great thought and energy into our new menus. We want our guests to enjoy their food and beverage on board Air India flights much like they would at their favourite restaurants.”

“Our underlying focus while designing the new menus has been on ensuring that they include nutritious options that are delicious, and on incorporating contemporary, sustainable practices,” he added.

We asked when the vegan meals will be extended to economy passengers on Air India’s international flights as well as on domestic flights in India. The airlines refused to comment on this. 

Air India, owned by the Tata Group, had also introduced a code for vegan travellers earlier in 2018. Passengers could choose the code ‘VGML’ if they wanted in-flight vegan meals.
