Canada's New Healthy Eating Guide Removes Milk

Canada's released a new food guide and what is noticeably missing from it is 'milk'. It has removed Milk as an entire food group, which has ticked off the dairy lobby.
Instead this guide has suggested the usage of vegan foods and veggies. Canadians are advised to fill half their plate with fruits and vegetables, a quarter with starches or grains and a quarter with protein. This is a more intuitive approach to eating according to the Canadian government.
A recent Food Standards Agency survey found that nearly half of 16-24-year-olds said they had an intolerance to cow's milk and dairy products, compared to just 8% of over-75s.

The Glycaemic Index in the 1980s was created by Dr Jenkins who now follows a plant-based diet for environmental reasons.

"I think [the guide] is moving in a plant-based direction, which will ruffle some feathers, but I think that's the direction it needs to go," he said of the new food guide.

According to BBC, he says we have erroneously placed "cow's milk next to mother's milk" in terms of its importance for human health.

As you cut out dairy from your diet it's important to ensure you get enough calcium from other sources. Time and again Canada has shown it's support towards plant based proteins.

The Canadian government invested $150 million in plant-based protein last year.
