Ghatkopar Vegan Silk Sarees Win Best Vegan Saree in PETA's Vegan Fashion Awards 2020

PETA’s Vegan Fashion Awards provide a platform to cruelty-free fashion brands and celebrities promoting vegan clothing products. The winners of PETA’s Vegan Fashion Awards 2020 included big names like Richa Chadha and Milind Soman. One of the highlights of the winning list was the best vegan saree – the Ghatkopar vegan silk saree.

Ghatkopar Cloth Stores are known for selling exclusive silk sarees since 1958. After the founder Mukund Mehta discovered the cruelty of the silk industry, he decided to switch to an ethical option without compromising on quality. Their craftsmen then started producing extravagant vegan silk sarees with the same luster and quality as real silk.

Since 2006, Ghatkopar has been manufacturing vegan silk sarees along with veganized versions of other fabrics that they use in their clothing including Pure Georgette, which is otherwise made with silk threads.

The Ghatkopar collection was certified by PETA in 2011, and in 2020 they bagged the PETA Vegan Fashion Award for best vegan silk saree. Such a recognition is important as it can help popularize the use of cruelty-free materials in other Indian clothing brands.
