Ricky Gervais Is Not Vegetarian Anymore, He Is Vegan!

English comedian, actor, director, and writer revealed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that he is vegan. Gervais’ involvement in animal rights and advocacy is well known, but it is arguably the first time that he has publicly revealed to be vegan. 

On being asked, “if he would be a cannibal who would he eat?” by Jimmy Fallon, Ricky replied, “Well, I am vegan so it’s even worse for me, I wouldn’t…”.  to which Fallon joked “What about Paul McCartney? He’s vegan”.
“Well that doesn’t make any difference if you eat someone who’s vegan, you’re still eating meat, aren’t you? If you eat a cow that doesn’t make you vegan because you’re eating an animal that’s vegan,” Gervais retorted. 
“So you wouldn’t eat Paul McCartney, even if you had the chance?” The host asked.
“Well I’d rather not eat anyone!” Gervais replied. 

The multi-award-winning comedian had been a vegetarian and had shared photos of vegan meals in the past but this is the first time he has revealed openly to be vegan. He has donated to and has helped raise funds for multiple animal charities and has actively criticized factory farming and our treatment of nonhuman animals in general.

Gervais has been outspoken in his opposition to practices like bull-fighting, puppy farms, animal testing, and trophy hunting, and also has campaigned against fur. 

The HIS award winner has a strong 14.5 million Twitter following where he regularly posts with his dog while Jimmy Fallon’s show has a reach of about 1.5 million per episode. This makes it a huge boost for veganism.
