The vegan movement is still on the increase as more individuals adopt a sustainable and healthy lifestyle. After all, individuals who adopt vegan lives are empathetic toward animals. And we can't always tell if the cattle we purchase at the market was raised on grass and how they were treated throughout their lives. Your conscience is kept free by eating plant-based meat, which reduces tension and anxiety. But some people might find this adjustment difficult, which is why the development of plant-based meat is a blessing.

And just in time for Veganuary, Subway has added a new vegan sandwich to its menu: the plant-based Teriyaki Steak Sub! Here’s how the sandwich chain managed to launch the vegan sandwich.

The specifics of the meatless sandwich

If you've never seen plant-based meat, it resembles chicken or beef steaks with the exception of its composition. Pea protein, coconut oil, yeast extract, beet juice, mung beans, and various types of rice among other ingredients can all be used to create plant-based meats. Subway, the brand claims that their meatless sandwich is filled with vegan steak (which was developed in collaboration with The Vegetarian Butcher), teriyaki sauce, Vegan CheeZe, and your choice of vegetables. The vegan teriyaki steak is loaded with your choice of vegetables, dairy-free Cheez-It, and vegan steak.

Subway partners with a meat-free brand

The sandwich restaurant has announced that starting in January 2023, it will offer plant-based "meat" alternatives through a partnership with the meat-free brand The Vegetarian Butcher. According to Subway, the firm makes "high-quality products, so you don't need to sacrifice taste or texture to enjoy plant-based meals." It is "one of the world's leading plant-based meat brands, designed by meat lovers, for meat lovers."

Creators of the plant-based Teriyaki Steak sub share their insight

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Angelina Gosal, Head of Marketing UK & Ireland at Subway said, “What a way to start the New Year! Both of our delicious new Subs offer a more vibrant and flavourful lunch with a mouth-watering Teriyaki sauce, melted cheese and all our guest’s favourite salad and veggies. Our Plant-based Teriyaki Steak has been created in collaboration with The Vegetarian Butcher, one of the world’s leading plant-based meat brands, so our guests don’t have to compromise on taste or texture to enjoy a meat-free lunch.”

Hugo Verkuil, CEO at The Vegetarian Butcher, added, “At The Vegetarian Butcher, we create products that make it easy to sacrifice nothing; not taste, texture, the environment or nutrition. We are very excited about the cooperation with Subway and the Plant-based Teriyaki Steak Sub. The juicy, beefy steak-style slices are the perfect way to show how plant-based and indulgence can go hand in hand.”

The intriguing up-side of consuming vegan steaks

Beyond debates about flavour and look, however, plant-based meat has a number of health advantages. If you've ever lamented feeling tired at strange times of the day, it might be because you're not getting enough critical nutrients. The nutrients your body needs to fuel itself for the day are found in many kinds of plant-based meat. Most people experience increased energy levels and perform at a greater level as long as you nourish your body properly.

Coming to Subway’s new sandwich, the latest entrant joins the restaurant's previous vegan offerings, which include include the Plant Patty, Veggie Delite, Crinkle Wedges, and Vegan Double Choc Cookie (when ordered with dairy-free CheeZe).
