After Beyond Meat’s recent partnership with Yum! Brands, Taco Bell has debuted plant-based meat at a test site in Southern California. Beyond Meat will be featured in the Cravetarian Taco, which is a recreation of Taco Bell's classic Crunchy Taco Supreme.

“At the beginning of 2021, we at Taco Bell reiterated our continued commitment to providing more vegetarian options throughout the year. While we work to create a new protein with Beyond Meat that is unique and something not quite yet seen in the industry, we are simultaneously testing other meatless options. Our seasoned beef is integral to our menu and we know that our fans are looking for more plant-based protein options today, so we wanted to explore yet another addition to our already expansive vegetarian lineup. Our history of innovation never stops,” said a Taco Bell spokesperson.

Beyond Meat will also be available as a plant-based alternative to meat across the menu. The fast-food chain has been accommodating to its vegan and vegetarian customer-base and has always offered customizable options. It also recently launched a “Veggie More” on its menu boards to allow easy access to about 50 meat and dairy-free items on the menu.

Taco Bell is planning to introduce more plant-based options on their menu, and if this new introduction gets a good response, it will add Beyond Meat products on their menu across the country. It is also considering launching some plant-based alternatives to dairy products like sour cream and cheese.

The spokesperson continued: “Every test item and menu change is highly intentional, and we are currently focused on plant-based meats. We’ve made space on the menu for new products, so there is more to come in 2021 as we continue innovation and product testing behind-the-scenes.”

Beyond Meat is expanding rapidly across the globe. In March, McDonald's announced that it will be developing plant-based poultry and pork with the plant-based meat company. Beyond Meat also teamed up with PepsiCo in January to expand its distribution chain, and recently opened its first offshore production site in China.

Fast food chains are observing the growing demand for plant-based options. In December 2020, Domino’s India introduced a plant-based protein pizza. Taco Bell currently has about 50 outlets in India, but the company has announced a massive expansion with 600 branches in the country. With Beyond Meat’s recent launch in India, it is possible that restaurants under Yum! Brands might explore launching plant-based meat in the country.
