United Airlines Adds Vegan Meal Options To Cater To Growing Demand

Airlines are now waking up to the growing plant-based trend and offering their customers more vegan menu options in-flight. And the latest one to join the club is United Airlines.

At the United Airlines Flight Plan 2020 event late last month, the carrier announced that it would be adding vegan in-flight dining options, collaborating with celebrity chefs and culinary experts to design delicious meals.

This year United started introducing healthier options and gluten-free alternatives, but will not be focusing heavily on plant-based options, according to a report from CNBC. The new menu will launch in 2020 – here’s a glimpse of what’s on offer:

• Red beet hummus with roasted vegetables
• Roasted cauliflower with whipped hummus and pomegranate
• Vegan stuffed grape leaves with dolma-infused yogurt

United runs its own kitchens, managing over 2500 catering employees and 6000 catering partner employees. They distribute around 55 million meals a year and run 5 main kitchens in Denver, Houston, Cleveland, Honolulu and Newark.

Other major airlines to offer vegan options include Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Air New Zeland, Aegean and even Air India. So the next time you plan a trip you know which airline to choose for your vegan meal fix!
