Lewis Hamilton Urges Fans To Adopt A Vegan Diet As Bushfires Rage In Australia

Formula 1 champ Lewis Hamilton has urged his fans to adopt a vegan diet as Australia continues to suffer from devastating bushfires.

The racer, who never misses an opportunity to advocate for veganism on his social media, posted a series of stories highlighting the cause. Hamilton has also donated $500,000 to the WWF Australia, Wires Wildlife Rescue and Rural Fire Services.

It saddens me deeply to know that over 1 billion animals in Australia died a painful death, no way out, not their fault. My love of animals is no secret and I can’t help but grieve for the defenceless animals thought to have died so far, pushing certain species closer to extinction. I’m lucky enough to visit Australia often and I know first-hand how beautiful the country is. Keep fighting Australia. I’ve spent some time speaking to people in Australia who are working at the heart of this and I’m filled with admiration for everything they are doing. I implore you to join me in thinking about the impact we are having on our planet. Let’s work together to make small changes, and encourage our family and friends to do the same, so we can help shift the direction we’re going in. One of Hamilton’s posts, sourced from the Department Of Agriculture And Water of the Australian government read, “Grazing livestock is responsible for 54 percent of Australia's land use. Urban usage is less than 0.18 per cent. Eight per cent is conservation."

Close to 1 billion animals are now feared dead, and the fires have ravaged over 2,000 homes, burned more than 30,000 square miles and killed an estimated 27 people.
