Nestlé To Launch Vegan Burger

Hot on the heels of Burger King launching the Impossible Whopper, another food giant is joining the plant-based meat club: Nestlé. The company announced that it will be launching a vegan burger in Europe later this year.

To be sold under the Garden Gourmet range, the "Incredible Burger" is 100% plant-based, with natural protein from soy and wheat. It also has natural plant extracts of carrot, beetroot and bell pepper, which helps mimic the look of a beef burger before, during, and after cooking. Nestlé claims that the burgers even make the same sizzling sound of a meat burger while cooking!

The patties can be found in the frozen section of grocery stores along with Garden Gourmet's existing range of products. It will launch this April, first coming to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden?

Nestlé believes that plant-based food as a trend is here to stay, and wants to enter the market when the time is right. 

"These new burgers don’t compromise on flavour, texture and cooking experience. They underline Nestlé's increased focus on tasty, authentic plant-based food. We believe this trend is here to stay, as consumers look at different ways to enjoy and balance their protein intake and lower the environmental footprint of their diets."

Across the pond in the United States, Nestlé plans to roll out a similar product in autumn - a cook-from-raw, plant-based burger called the Awesome Burger, that will be sold under the Sweet Earth brand. Unlike the Incredible Burger, the Awesome Burger will be sold fresh.  England adds, "We’re proud of our ability to make healthy and sustainable food accessible to everyone through our trusted brands. This includes plant-based food products under our Garden Gourmet range in Europe and the Sweet Earth brand in the U.S."
