Sustainability is gradually taking over the mainstream fashion industry as giants such as H&M, Adidas, and Nike are experimenting with sustainable materials for their products.

After the release of its sustainable running shoes Forever Floatride GROW in October 2020, Reebok has announced a vegan and sustainable version of its Nano X1 training shoes. These shoes are USDA-certified and bio-based, with 40% of the shoes made with renewable and biological materials. The upper part is made from cotton and wood spun yarn, the soles consist of natural rubber, while the midsoles constitute castor bean oil and EVA foam.

The shoes also have the Floatride Energy cushioning, similar to the non-vegan version. Reebok promises the same comfort level for this footwear as well.

“We have a responsibility not just to design and create with our consumers in mind, but also planet Earth. Products like the Nano X1 Vegan are small, but important steps we’re taking towards our bold future sustainability ambitions as a brand,” stated Tal Short, Reebok senior product manager.

The vegan Nano X1 shoes will enter stores from May 1, 2021 in men’s and women’s sizes.

Reebok’s parent company Adidas has previously participated in sustainable fashion with the launch of the ‘world’s most sustainable shoes’ in collaboration with Allbirds, as well as the Clean Classics collection launched in 2020. It has also claimed to use only recycled plastic by 2024, and has been utilizing sustainable cotton since 2018.
