The American burger chain with outlets all over the world has decided to try out a fully vegan menu in central London for one whole month. Burger King's flagship outlet located in Leicester Square will try out a fully meatless and dairy-free menu as part of a trial to gauge the demand up to April 10th 2022.

SOMETHING FOR ALL

The all-vegan menu at the location will feature over 25 dairy and meat-free dishes including the legendary Plant-based Whopper, the Vegan Royale among their other offerings like a Katsu sandwich, their vegan bacon double cheeseburger, chilli cheese bites, onion rings and nuggets. The menu also includes the non-dairy Cookie On Cookie Dough ice-cream by Ben & Jerry’s.

The outlet will also have a kids menu featuring their junior meals with vegan hamburgers and cheeseburgers.

“We’re incredibly proud of our new meat-free menu; it absolutely delivers on big taste with no compromises and reflects our ongoing commitment to serving our customers a diverse and innovative range of products,” Katie Evans, Chief Marketing Officer at Burger King said.

CLIMATE CONSCIOUS BURGERS

Burger King UK and Europe have been far ahead of Burger King US in their plant-based launches in a growing testament to the demand for vegan and plant-based options from consumers. This is in line with an announcement by Burger King UK earlier about targeting a 50% meat-free menu by the year 2030 while launching their plant-based options and vegan nuggets. In response to a growing demand for vegan and vegetarian options and also to address climate change, Burger King is aiming to cut emissions from its menu and also in its practices as part of a new sustainability agenda.

TRIED AND TESTED

This is not the first time Burger King is testing the waters with a prolonged plant-based menu. Having done this in the past in Germany and Spain successfully, the burger chain often tests the demand for particular items and is used as an assessment to see if there is a possibility of having a fully meat-free outlet in the future.

“The limited-edition menu is a direct result of our focus on vegan and plant-based innovation and goes hand in hand with our target of a 50 percent meat-free menu by 2030, as well as our commitment to sustainability and responsible business. We can’t think of a more fitting way to re-launch our new-look flagship in Leicester Square”, added Ms. Evans.

Burger King’s meatless menu has been developed in collaboration with The Vegetarian Butcher, a Dutch alternative meat manufacturer which was acquired by Unilever in 2018. Burger King’s menu has items labeled ‘plant-based’ and ‘vegan’ separately and has clarified that at the Leicester Square outlet for this trial month, even if the label mentions ‘plant-based’, the food is still vegan nevertheless but has not been certified and doesn’t carry the vegan trademark.

Even PETA has applauded the burger chain with Director of Vegan Corporate Projects, Dawn Carr adding, “PETA applauds the UKs first all-vegan Burger King – a whopping great step in the right direction for animals and the environment. The planet needs a game-changing shift away from meat to combat the climate emergency, and Burger King is leading the way. We love its expanding meat-free range: from the Vegan Royale to the Vegan Nuggets, these plant-powered, protein-packed meals appeal to both vegans and meat-eaters!”
