Luxury clothing brand Canada Goose, popularly known for its coyote fur and goose feather jackets, has announced that it will stop buying fur by the end of 2021, and that its apparels will be free of fur by the end of 2022.

The campaigns against the brand's use of fur extracted by brutal hunting of coyotes have been ongoing for years. These have been led by several major animal welfare organisations such as PETA and Humane Society International. The brand has finally pledged to stop the use of fur due to animal cruelty concerns.

“Our future is fur free. We believe that what we do matters, and how we do it is just as important,” stated the company.

However, the brand will continue the use of down feathers from geese in their jackets.

The phasing out of fur trims in their jackets is also a step to become environmentally responsible by the brand. The past year has seen several other instances of luxury brands phasing out fur to become eco-friendly, one of them being Italian designer label Valentino, along with Versace and Gucci.

"For years, Canada Goose's trademark parka jackets with coyote fur trim have been synonymous with fur cruelty but their announcement today is another major blow to the global fur trade," commented Claire Bass, executive director of HSI.

Apart from brands, many countries have also banned the use of fur in the past year, including Hungary, Estonia, and several other European countries.
